An investigation has been launched into a fire which ripped through a primary school in Ormskirk last night.

Six fire crews, from Lancashire and Merseyside, tackled the blaze at Asmall Primary School on Tennyson Drive from about 7:30pm on Thursday.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service say the building was 'well alight' when they arrived at the scene.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and hose reels to bring the fire under control, which had spread to three rooms of the building.

The fire was brought under control at about 9:30pm.

A fundraiser has been set up, with all money going towards the repairs of the building.

Parents were told not to send their children to school today because of the damage it's caused to the building.
