Lancashire Police, Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Council of Mosques have teamed up to set up a new phone helpline to report "Islamophobic" crimes.

The scheme has received ÂŁ4000 worth of funding from Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, Abdul Hamid Qureshi, told Rock FM that he knows people who don't have the confidence to report hate crimes straight away to the police. This helpline would act as a buffer and cases would then be referred to the police.

Abdul hopes this new helpline will encourage more muslim people in East Lancashire to come forward and report hate crimes.
