If you travel on the motorways in the north west of England you'll have probably come across some of the bridges adorned with various graffiti relating to pies.

It's something that has puzzled motorists for years with many taking to Twitter to ask what it was all about.

Finally the reason behind the graffiti has been revealed in a BBC News report.

The Pies are a band from Liverpool who many years ago found themselves 'stuck on a bridge', according to lead singer Ash Martin. They didn't know what to do so they wrote 'The Pies The Pies', which stayed up for over 20 years.

Over the years more graffiti has continued to appear around the M57 and M6 bridges with messages such as 'Vote Pies' and 'Pies this is your time'. Graffiti has also appeared around Liverpool, but despite their guerrilla marketing the band hasn't become widely known.

However, 30 years after forming The Pies are finally 'getting their time' and releasing their debut album 'A Brief History of Pies'. They will also be performing at St George's Hall in Liverpool this weekend.
