Morecambe Football Club has confirmed that the National League has officially lifted its suspension following a successful takeover by the Panjab Warriors consortium.
The football club confirmed the suspension, imposed due to the club's failure to meet financial regulations, has been lifted today (20 Augusts), after the completion of the acquisition.
The takeover marks a historic moment for British football, as Panjab Warriors becomes the first Sikh-led investment group to own a professional English football club.
The deal received clearance from the English Football League (EFL) and ends a tumultuous three-year period since the club was put up for sale by Bond Group Investments in September 2022 .
In a related development, Ashvir Singh Johal has been appointed as the new manager of Morecambe FC.
At 30 years old, Johal becomes the youngest manager in the top five tiers of English football and the first Sikh to manage a professional British club.
His appointment follows the Panjab Warriors takeover and the dismissal of previous manager Derek Adams .
The club is set to play its first National League match of the season against Altrincham FC on Saturday (August 23) after previous fixtures were postponed due to the suspension .
