A minutes silence is being held across the UK to remember the 30 Britons - including a Blackpool couple - who were killed in the terror attack in Tunisia one year ago.

Denis and Elaine Thwaites were among those shot dead by an Islamic State extremist on a beach in the holiday resort of Sousse.

Staff at Blackpool council are among those who are observing the minute's silence across the country.

Here's a statment from Lindsey & Daniel Clifford Daughter & Son-in-Law of Denis and Elaine Thwaites:

“My Mum & Dad, Elaine and Denis Thwaites were tragically ripped apart from us on the 26th June 2015. They went on holiday and never came home! We constantly ask ourselves why them? But there are no answers.

"They were beautiful, kind people, who lit up every room they embraced. They made me so proud, and were truly loved and liked by all their family and friends. They had friends in many places in the UK and around the world, who always say “they were just the best!” It just showed by the tributes and the warming messages of support we received, which have helped us get through this last 12 months so much.

"They had a loving relationship and married in September 1974 in Birmingham after only a short engagement. A year later they had Lindsey and made a loving family home together. After five years or so they moved to Blackpool where they lived a happy life for 35years near the coast, which they loved. They always worked so hard throughout their lives to have a happy retirement and enjoy their holidays. Dad joked that he would rather stay at home and in the garden but when he got to his hotel, he was always very happy as the sun was shining. We shared many great times and holidays with them, and had more planned. They were young at heart and had many years left to live, but tragically, this was short lived. They were my rocks and my best friends. As an only child, Mum and Dad were my world and they gained a son in Danny when we married. Our Wedding Day was amazing, but now more so of the happy memories we shared.

"Myself, Danny, our family and friends are completely devastated and may never move on from this, but we will try to rebuild our lives and find a new normal, the best we can.

"With Mum & Dad in our hearts, we will always find the comfort we need. The pain will never go away, but just to see them again for one more day……”
