Six fire crews were called to a fire in a disused building in Maudland Bank, Preston yesterday afternoon (4th September).

Firefighters urged people in the area to keep windows and doors shut as there was a "significant smoke plume".

They were called just before 4.30pm, and were damping down until the early hours of this morning.

A Lancashire fire spokesperson said: "At 16:26 on 4th September, six fire engines attended a disused building fire on Maudland Bank, Preston.

"Firefighters continue to extinguish the one storey building using four mainline jets, two breathing apparatus, and one ground monitor.

"Our drone has completed an aerial assessment which confirmed no further hotspots.

"A fire service presence remains with our search dogs, who have recently completed a full search of the premises to confirm the building is vacant."

An investigation into how to fire started has been launched.
