Man sentenced after his dog seriously injures neighbour
76 year old woman suffered serious bite wounds in attack in Blackburn
A man has been sentenced after his dangerously out of control dog attacked his neighbour in Blackburn.
Victim Jacqueline McGrew, 76, had gone to see her neighbour at around 2pm on June 14, last year, and before entering their garden had listened at the gate to see if any of their dogs were outside.
When she went into the garden, she was immediately attacked from behind by a large Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
She suffered serious dog bites to the face, head, arms, hand and back.
The dog only stopped attacking her when it was sprayed with a hosepipe.
Jacqueline required surgery to her head, suffered a broken nose and the sight in her right eye was affected for a week. She was discharged from hospital after 14 days.
Following our investigation David Wilson, 57, of Devon Road, Blackburn, was charged with being the owner/person in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury.
He admitted the offence and was today (May 3) sentenced at Blackburn Magistrates Court by a district judge to a 12-month community order. Wilson was also ordered to complete 200 hours unpaid work and pay Jacqueline £500 compensation.
The dog has since been destroyed.
