A man's been jailed for 13 years for killing a Polish man in a drunken fight in Blackpool.
35 year old Daniel Sobisz admitted to the manslaughter of Marcin Pawlow two days before Christmas last year.
The court heard how a group of Polish men were drinking heavily and taking drugs in a flat on Central Drive.
After a heated argument about drugs, Pawlow sprayed a fire extinguisher at the other men and a fight broke out.
Sobisz stabbed him multiple times in the hip, leg and shoulder.
30-year old Pawlow was found lying in the middle of the road and later died in hospital.
35-year old Sobisz of no fixed address went on the run and stayed in Leicester after trying and failing to flee to Poland.
On sentencing, the judge said Sobisz was aggresive and had took the life of another man at a tragic young age.
Det Chief Insp Dean Holden, of Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: “Marcin Pawlow should have been looking forward to Christmas Day with friends, but it was to be a Christmas he would never see.
“Following a disagreement, Mr Pawlow was subjected to a brutal and callous assault by Daniel Sobisz which left him dying in the street.
“Sobisz then fled the scene and travelled to Leicester to evade capture.
“A major manhunt was launched involving detectives from Lancashire and Leicestershire which resulted in his arrest.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to our counterparts at Leicestershire Police for their assistance during this investigation.
“Sobisz is a dangerous individual and after he has served his sentence will be deported to Poland.
“We welcome today’s sentence from the court.”
Julie Reilly, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West Said: “This is a tragic case involving the death of Marcin Pawlow who had been invited to Blackpool by his friend so that he would not be alone over the festive season. He had been in the area just four hours when was stabbed numerous times by Daniel Sobisz.
“The group of friends and acquaintances were drinking together at the flat when an argument broke out. Marcin Pawlow left the flat but returned a short time later when a scuffle occurred with one of the other men at the door to the flat. Sobisz who was armed with a kitchen knife from the flat stabbed Mr Pawlow to the back, chest and thigh causing fatal injuries.
“Sobisz returned to the flat, discarded the knife, took his coat, and went to various friends’ houses in order to continue drinking. He then went on the run for almost a month after arranging for someone to drive him to Birmingham that night. Police tracked him down in Leicester in January where he was arrested and transported back to Lancashire to face the charge against him.
“After initially denying any involvement in this vicious attack, he eventually admitted responsibility for manslaughter.
“Today as Daniel Sobisz begins this sentence he must face up to the consequences of his violent actions. I would like to offer the family and friends of Marcin Pawlow my sincere condolences, our thoughts are very much with them at this time.
“The Crown Prosecution Service and the police are dedicated to tackling violence and knife crime and will continue to work closely together to bring those who commit such offences before the courts.”
