Man in critical condition after fail-to-stop collision in Morecambe
Police appeal for witnesses after pedestrian injured on Ovangle Road
A pedestrian has been left critically injured after being hit by a car in a fail-to-stop collision in Morecambe.
The incident happened at 2.38pm on Tuesday, 16th December, on Ovangle Road and involved a black Hyundai i30 and a man in his 40s.
The North-West Ambulance Service alerted police to the collision, and the man was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. His condition is described as critical.
The Hyundai was later found abandoned.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. A 41-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Sgt Joseph Calvert from Lancashire Police's Road Policing Unit said, “As a result of this collision, a man has been left with some very serious injuries, and my thoughts are with him and his loved ones at this difficult time.
“We know this happened at a busy time of the day and there were a number of potential witnesses in the area. With that in mind, we would ask anyone with information or dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage which could assist our enquiries to make contact with us as soon as possible.”
