Man in critical condition after assault outside Blackpool pub

Lancashire Constabulary have confirmed investigations are continuing after an incident last night in Blackpool.

They have confirmed a man has been taken to hospital and is in a critical condition following the incident, which they say happened outside the Manchester pub at around 7pm - after yesterday's football match.

During the serious incident, a 33-year-old man was taken into police custody.

In their post, Blackpool Police said: "You may have seen police activity on Lytham Road, Blackpool, this evening (Saturday) so we wanted to give you more information about it.

"At around 7pm today patrols in the Promenade area attended an assault outside the Manchester pub.

"They found a man had suffered a serious head injury.

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.

"A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding and he remains in custody.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The 33-year-old man remains in police custody this morning in connection with the incident.

Commenting on the post, a number of people have made reference to the football match sparking the incident - top of the table Burnley’s trip to Blackpool ended goalless.
