Man dies after getting into difficulty in Lancaster river

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the River Lune on Sunday

A man has died after getting into difficulty in the River Lune in Lancaster.

Emergency services were called to Halton Road, Lancaster at around 7.37am on Sunday morning, after two men got into difficulty on a rowing boat.

A multi-agency rescue operation was launched by HM Coastguard, also involving Lancashire Fire & Rescue, police and ambulance crews.

One man was pulled from the water, but a second man was pulled out unconscious.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Ina statement, Lancashire Police say: "The thoughts and condolences of all of us are with the man's family at this heart breaking time.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner"
