Man charged in connection with death of Fleetwood woman

A man has been charged in connection with the death of a Fleetwood woman, who was found dead on a railway line in Lancashire.

Kiena Dawes, who was 23, was found by British Transport Police on the line near Barnacre, near Garstang, on 22 July 2022.

She had been reported missing by her family a short time earlier.

Lancashire Police say they have now charged 30-year-old Ryan Wellings with manslaughter, controlling and coercive behaviour and actual bodily harm.

In a statement released last night, they said: "A man has been charged today (3rd June) in relation to the death of Kiena Dawes.

"On 22nd July 2022, Kiena was sadly found deceased by our British Transport Police colleagues on the line near Barnacre.

"Kiena, 23, from Fleetwood, had been reported missing a short time earlier.

"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, we have charged Ryan Wellings, 30, with Manslaughter, Controlling and Coercive Behaviour and Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm."

Wellings, who used to live in Fleetwood but now resides in Bispham, has been released on conditional bail, and will appear at Preston Magistrates Court on 10th July.
