Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Accrington

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a series of violent incidents in the town.

Police have made a further arrest following a series of serious assaults in Accrington on Friday (18th July).

A 33-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested today (Saturday 19th July) on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Three other people from Accrington—a 36-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman, and a 36-year-old woman—were also arrested yesterday on suspicion of affray. All remain in custody.

The first incident happened at 2:37pm outside Raza Jamia Masjid on Lower Antley Street, where a man in his 40s was found with a stab wound to his back. He was taken to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

Later, police were called to Steiner Street at 5:15pm following reports of a group fighting with weapons. Just minutes later, another assault was reported on Richmond Street, where a man suffered a stab wound to the neck. He remains in hospital in a very poorly condition.

Police believe the incidents are linked and have launched a full investigation. A significant police presence remains in the area to carry out enquiries and reassure the public.
