Police appeal after M65 shut in both directions as car drives the wrong way down motorway
The car collided with two other vehicles
The M65 in Lancashire was shut in both directions for a considerable amount of time yesterday eveing, following reports of a car driving the wrong way down the motorway between junctions 5&6.
The force said they were called after reports of the car colliding with two other vehicles.
A spokesperson for the Lancashire Constabulary said:
"As you may be aware, the M65 was closed in both directions between Junctions 5 (Guide) and 6 (Whitebirk) and we just wanted to give you some more information as to why.
"We were called to the M65 following reports of a collision between junction 5 and 6.
"It was reported a car travelling contraflow to traffic had collided with two other vehicles.
"There are no reports of any life-threatening injuries at this time, however emergency services remain on scene.
"A full closure motorway closure was put in place to allow medical professionals to carry out their work and for the vehicles to be recovered. We are pleased to confirm the motorway is now fully re-open.
"To anyone impacted by the closure, we'd just like to say thank you for your patience and understanding.
"Anyone witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call 101, quoting log 1051 of 9th August 2025."
