M6 to remain shut southbound throughout the day after fatal Lancashire crash
The northbound carriageway's now back open after the collision between Broughton and Lancaster
The M6 is to remain shut southbound throughout the day after a crash near Preston which left one person dead and a number of others injured.
The northbound side is now back open after the collision, which happened between the Broughton interchange and Lancaster just before midday yesterday.
It's after a lorry travelling north crashed through the central reservation, onto the opposite side of the road, colliding with a number of vehicles.
Multiple emergency services rushed to the scene, with officers later confirming one person had died, and multiple people had been taken to hospital with "serious injuries".
After emergency repair works took place overnight, the northbound carriageway reopened in the early hours, whilst it's thought the southbound side will be shut for most of the day for resurfacing work.
In a statement on their website, National Highways says: "The M6 in Lancashire remains closed southbound between J33 near Lancaster and J32 near Preston following a serious collision involving a heavy goods vehicle which occurred shortly before 11:30 yesterday morning.
"The Heavy Goods Vehicle collided with the central reservation barrier, overturned and came to rest on its side on the northbound carriageway.
"Lancashire Police collision investigation has been completed.
"Complex recovery, clear up works and barrier repairs continue at the scene."
