A chunk of the M6 near Preston has been shut this morning (29th July) after a lorry caught fire.

National Highways says just one lane is open between Junction 32 (Preston) and 31a (Ribbleton) to allow the built-up traffic through.

It's also affecting the M55 eastbound from J1 A6 Garstang Road to M6 J32 at Broughton Interchange.

People are being urged to use alternative routes and allow extra time for travel.

Lancashire Police say the road is likely to be shut for a few hours.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue service has six fire crews in attendance.

They were called at around 6am, and when they arrived it's said the lorry was well alight.
