A man who was left critically injured following a gas explosion in Longridge near Preston has died due to his injuries.

Robert Fenwick was seriously hurt in the wake of the explosion on Wheatley Drive in the town last Sunday (September 1st).

When officers responded to reports of the explosion, the man was seen outside the property suffering serious burns.

He was taken to hospital by medical professionals, with the latest information being that he was in a "critical" condition.

Sister-in-law Emma Fenwick has since confirmed that Robert has passed away as a result of his injuries.

Writing a post in a local Facebook group, Emma said: "It's with sad news that we inform you, Robert Anthony Fenwick passed away peacefully yesterday in hospital, with his family round him.

"We would appreciate this next few days for his immediate family to process this and have the time needed.

"Especially considering his two young children and mother who now need to come to terms with his passing. "

Two other people suffered serious injuries in the wake of the explosion, which tore off the front of the property.

A joint investigation between Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has been launched, though no updates have yet been given.
