Tributes paid to Great Grandmother fatally hit by car in Leyland

The 89-year-old died in hospital two days after the collision

Tributes have been paid to a Great Grandmother who died after she was hit by a car in Leyland.

Officers say they were called at around 7am on Saturday (10th January) to reports a pedestrian had been hit at the junction of Dunkirk Lane and Paradise Lane.

89-year-old Sylvia McKearnan suffered serious pelvic, shoulder and spinal injuries.

She died in hospital two days later.

Lancashire Police say their thoughts remain with her family.

"...an emptiness in our hearts that cannot be filled."

Sylvia's family said in a statement, “We are heartbroken by the loss of our adored mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and auntie whose kindness, warmth and love touched all our lives.

“Her sudden passing in this tragic car accident leaves an emptiness in our hearts that cannot be filled.

“She was the guiding light of our family, and her memory will forever be treasured. We thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.”
