Teenage boys arrested following racially aggravated Lancaster assault
A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old have been detained by Lancashire Police
Two teenage boys aged 14 and 16 have been arrested by police in Lancaster following a racially aggravated assault in the city.
Officers first received reports of an altercation between two unknown men and two victims in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 15th).
When responders arrived at the scene at Penny Street, they found that the victims - a female victim and her male friend - had been assaulted.
The female victim, who is in her 20s, was said to have received serious injuries to her face in the unprovoked attack.
Following initial enquiries, it was found that the two victims had been approached by the men to ask for a cigarette, but when they said they had none, the two perpetrators became racially abusive.
Lancashire Police released an image of a young man they wished to speak to in relation to the incident in an appeal on Saturday.
A number of people got in touch with the force to offer information, and two teenage boys were confirmed to have been arrested on suspicion of assault on Sunday (June 16th).
Speaking at the time, Detective Sergeant Rachel Crossley from the Lancaster CID said: "We will not tolerate this kind of appalling behaviour in our communities and I want to reassure the public that we are taking this matter extremely seriously."
Meanwhile, investigations into the attack remain ongoing and the public are continuing to be urged to get in touch with any information or eyewitness accounts.
