Lancashire is waking up to a flurry of snow this morning, as experts warn of possible travel disruption.

A yellow met office weather warning is in place for the whole north west for most of this week.

Highways England are advising people to check before they travel, and also to make sure tyres are properly deflated, screenwash is topped up and all car lights are working correctly.

Neil Lloyd is an Operations Manager for Highways North West. He says, "We ask when drivers do go out, that they consider carrying a winter kit in their vehicle in the event of being caught up in incidents. Things like extra warm clothing, water, and a small shovel"

"People should drive to the weather conditions".

In East Lancashire, Elton Road has been closed by police after an accident. In an update on X, the force said: "Good Morning, we are currently dealing with a road traffic collision by the Grey Mare Inn on Elton Road Belthorn. The road is very dangerous and Grane Road and Elton road is now closed."

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Chris Bulmer said: "There are a couple of weather systems for Tuesday and Wednesday which we are keeping an eye on that bring the potential for disruptive snow for some regions.

"With cold air firmly in place, any weather systems that move across the country next week will bring mainly snowfall inland.

"Models are currently showing us a variety of options for both systems and we'll be able to add more details in the coming days."
