A three-year-old British girl has reportedly died in hospital two weeks after being pulled unconscious from a hotel swimming pool on the Greek island of Rhodes.

Reports online claim the child was from Blackpool.

She was staying with her family at a hotel in Lardos, southern Rhodes, when the incident allegedly occurred on 14 October 2025, according to Greek media outlet Rodiaki.

The local newspaper says CCTV footage from the resort showed the toddler in the water for around ten minutes before being discovered.

Greek media also claim a British doctor staying at the same hotel spotted the child in the water and jumped in to retrieve her.

She was initially taken to Rhodes General Hospital. Hospital director Micalis Sokorelos was quoted by local media as saying the child was “brain dead” at the time of admission (Rodiaki).

After several days of treatment in Greece, the child was transferred to a hospital in the United Kingdom for further care.

She reportedly died there on Sunday 26 October.

According to Greek press reports, including websites Dimokratiki and Rodiaki, two men - the child’s uncle and a hotel or travel-agency employee - were arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm by negligence.

The case remains under investigation by local authorities.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed that it is supporting the family of a British child following an incident in Greece.

An FCDO spokesperson told Bauer Media: “We are supporting the family of a British child following an incident in Greece and are in contact with local authorities.”
