A Lancashire police officer has been dismissed for accessing police computers and passing information on to a third party.

A Lancashire police officer has been dismissed for accessing police computers and passing information on to a third party.

On two occasions PC Keith Russell accessed police computer systems for a non-policing purpose and disclosed the information he obtained to a third party.

Lancashire Police say the conduct of PC Russell was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in the areas of Honesty & Integrity; Orders & Instructions; Duties & Responsibilities; Confidentiality and Discreditable Conduct.

On the 13th May 2016 a Public Special Case Hearing was chaired by Chief Constable Finnigan at Leyland Police Station in relation to the conduct of PC Keith Russell.

PC Keith Russell was dismissed from Lancashire Constabulary with immediate effect.

The Head of Lancashire Constabulary’s Professional Standards Department, Detective Superintendent Sam Mackenzie said:

“The public quite rightly expect us to maintain the highest standards of professional behaviour and we are committed to ensuring that is the case. We will take action whenever the behaviour of our staff falls below those high standards.”
