Lancashire police have today launched Operation Reckoning; a month of action to tackle domestic abuse across Preston, Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire.

All this month, they will be proactively looking for those suspects who are wanted for domestic abuse investigations, visiting people who are on police bail for domestic abuse offences ensuring they are adhering to their conditions and arresting those that are not.

They will also be offering safeguarding advice and support to vulnerable members of the community to promote confidence in reporting Domestic Abuse issues.

Superintendent Steve Rides, said: While domestic abuse is happening, the perpetrators make sure their victims are dependent on them and it’s a cycle of abuse which is difficult to break. These people take advantage of the most vulnerable victims and we are committed to identifying, arresting and bringing them to justice, thereby safeguarding those victims of domestic abuse. Building trust and confidence is vital both in terms of how safe our communities feel, and in encouraging victims to seek help and support.

Domestic abuse isn’t just physical – it can also be emotional, sexual, financial or controlling behaviour.

It can also happen to anyone - regardless of their identified gender, sexuality or lifestyle".
