Lancashire's leaders are urging parents not to hold their children back from getting tested
Students have been getting swabbed twice a week since they've been back at school
As hundreds of pupils in Lancashire mark their first full week back at school, we're hearing how testing is helping to keep kids in the classroom.
It's after we told you teaching unions are warning it could take children up to five years to catch up on lost learning because of the pandemic.
According to Lancashire County Council over 70,000 tests were carried out at schools across the county in the last week, with 47 positive covid tests.
Councillor Phillippa Williamson is the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, she said: "It's a very good uptake, we would like it to be higher because obviously we are looking for maximum percentages if we can.
"But we are very pleased with that and the schools are doing really a lot of work to support people in coming forwards and having those tests.
"If we can keep that twice weekly regular testing up, any of those parent's issues around you know 'is it reliable, what will that mean' doesn't really matter because we're regularly testing everybody."
"It's a great shame one or two of them are having to self isolate again but it's just really a reminder that we need to keep this testing up and that with the vaccine is essential really for us getting out of this lockdown."
