Investigation underway after prisoner climbs on Leyland prison roof

An investigation's underway after a prisoner managed to escape and climb onto the roof of one of the buildings at HMP Garth in Leyland.

An investigation's underway after a prisoner managed to escape and climb onto the roof of one of the buildings at HMP Garth in Leyland.

The man managed to climb onto the roof at around 6pm last night and was seen pacing.

He stayed up there overnight and was safely talked down by mediators at around 7.30am this morning.

A Prison Service spokesperson said:

“A prisoner at HMP Garth has voluntarily come down from the roof, following an incident overnight.

“There were no injuries to anyone involved and the prison is now returning to a normal regime."
