An investigation is underway after a suspected gas explosion at a house in Longridge left a man critically injured.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Wheatley Drive yesterday morning, with nearby windows being blown through and the front of the house being almost completely destroyed.

A man, who fire crews found outside the property when they arrived, was rushed to hospital where he is in a "critical condition".

Two other people also suffered minor injuries.

A joint investigation has now started into the blast, with gas company Cadent also on site.

A witness described it as a "huge bang", saying: "It sort of shook you. You literally felt a wave of the noise, as well as the noise.

"Our door to our loft dropped down, and then it was just shock. I ran to the door, and then you just can't believe it"

Lancashire Fire and Rescue posted on social media, at around 1pm yesterday: "This incident has now been reduced to three pumps, who remain in attendance alongside Urban Search and Rescue colleagues.

"Road closures are likely to remain in place for several hours. Please continue to avoid the area."

Anyone who has information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 101.
