An investigation has been launched after a woman suffered a potentially "life-changing injuries" in an accident at a Lidl in Wigan.

Emergency crews were called to the store on Whitworth Way at around 10pm on Wednesday night.

A number of specialists, including a doctor from the North West Ambulance Service, attended. It's thought she sustained a leg injury in a workplace related accident.

An NWAS spokesperson added: "We responded to an incident following a call at 9.48pm, sending an ambulance, two response vehicles, a doctor, an advanced paramedic and the Hazardous Area Response Team. A patient was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury."

Lidl has thanked emergency services for their response, and say an investigation is now underway. They said: "Support is being provided by senior management to our store colleagues and we are extremely thankful for the swift action taken by those on site.

"We are also grateful for the prompt response from the emergency services and are working closely with all relevant authorities, providing our full support to their investigations."
