Nearly 300 patients taken to Blackpool Victoria's A&E by ambulance have found themselves waiting more than an hour to be transferred.

Previously, only around 50 patients were waiting for that long, but in September, ambulance handover delays left 272 patients waiting more than an hour to be moved into A&E at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Bosses are putting it down to a backlog of patients which is being partly blamed on the complexity of illness among patients, and difficulties discharging people.

NHS Clifton Hospital in Blackpool also said that they are experiencing a high demand:

Blackpool Victoria Hospital is urging patients to think before attending A&E for non-emergency treatment.
