Girl who was seriously injured in van crash in Accrington dies
She was hurt after the vehicle went down a ravine on Friday
A teenage girl, who was seriously hurt after being involved in a crash on the Accrington Bypass has died.
The 15 year old was a passenger in a Mercedes van which lefa slip road of the A56 on Friday evening.
The Sprinter crashed through a metal barrier and down a steep ravine.
The girl, who is being named as Bonny Rae Barrow, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Manchester, where she later died.
Her family is now being supported by specially trained officers, and police have launched an investigation.
The driver, a man aged 23, suffered a number of injuries, and has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Sgt Phil Baxendale, of the Specialist Operations Road Policing Unit, said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with the loved ones of the young girl who has sadly lost her life.
"While we have made an arrest our investigation is ongoing and I would continue to appeal to anyone who either saw the collision itself, or the van beforehand, or who has any footage which could assist in our investigation, to get in touch.”
