Two men assaulted by gang with weapons in Accrington

Lancashire Police are describing the incident as a "shocking attack"

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage after two men were assaulted in Accrington yesterday (August 3).

Officers were called to Carter Street, Accrington, at 5.52pm to reports of a concern for safety.

We attended and discovered that two men had been assaulted by a group of people with weapons.

One of the victims, a man in his 40s, suffered serious leg and head injuries. They are not life-threatening.

The injuries suffered by the second victim, a man in his 30s, are not as serious.

No arrests have been made at this stage, but enquiries are ongoing.

Patrols have been increased in the area.

DS Alex Rawsthorn, of East CID, said: “This was a shocking attack which has left two men with injuries.

“We have identified 10 suspects who we believe have travelled to the scene from the direction of Willows Lane in possession of weapons and carried out the assault.

“Enquiries are very much ongoing and we are keeping an open mind as to the motive at this stage.

“I would ask any witnesses or anybody with information, CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could assist our investigation to contact the police.”
