Firefighters tackle landfill fire in Chorley

Firefighters in Lancashire have been tackling a fire at a landfill site in Chorley.

Crews from Chorley, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, and Leyland attended the incident on Dawson Lane, Whittle-le-Woods at around 6.15pm last night.

A drone was also deployed.

Firefighters have been on the scene overnight to dampen down and check for hotspots. A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue says, "At 18:17 on 19th March 2023, six fire engines from Chorley, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, and Leyland, as well as the drone team, attended a fire involving a landfill site on Dawson Lane, Whittle-le-Woods.

"Crews used two jets, one ground monitor, and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters will remain on scene in to the night as they continue damping down and checking for hotspots."
