People across Lancashire are bring urged not get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol this Christmas.

It comes after a drink driver from Blackburn was jailed last week for more than two years for a crash which resulted in a motorcyclist losing his leg.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service's Prevention Support Officer Kirsty McLoughlin spoke to us on the matter, outlining the risks of drink driving.

"If you have drank, even just one or two, you will act completely differently to when you are sober."

Last year in Lancashire, 100 collisions had a contributory factor of driver or rider impaired by alcohol, according to the Lancashire County Council. 92 of those collisions had a contributory factor of exceeding speed limit.

"People always think 'I'm safe on the road', but are the other drivers? If you are driving through area that might have pedestrians, especially nearer Christmas time, there may be people stumbling home drunk who could stumble out into the road. That little amount that you've had will impact your reactions."

David Bradley, a local driver instructor in Lancashire, also warned people against the dangerous of driving whilst intoxicated.

"Often drivers may think they are under the limit for drink driving, but its not worth the risk".

"Drink driving causes serious injury and fatalities, and it seems to be increasing for Lancashire. Use taxis and public transport, be very aware of morning after drink driving and simply don't drink and drive."
