A stalker who sent his victim over 1000 unwanted messages in a month has been jailed for 30-months and handed a 10-year restraining order.

61-year-old Collin Goodwin, who's from Essex, sent the victim threatening messages, including one where he said he'd throw acid in her face.

He turned up outside her house in Blackpool multiple times, and once stayed outside for two hours.

He also posted intimate images of her on his former employer's public Facebook page.

Goodwin pleaded guilty to:

  • stalking involving fear of violence
  • sharing a photograph or film of a person in an intimate state
  • intending to cause alarm, distress or humiliation
  • threatening to share a photograph or film of a person in an intimate state.

"..left me harmed, affected and with feelings of isolation."

In a Victim Impact Statement to the court, the victim said: “His behaviour towards me has left me harmed, affected and with feelings of isolation. I have suffered through his offending and feel I will continue to do so moving forward.”

"...a significant amount of distress."

Detective Constable Rik Nicol said: “First and foremost I want to commend the victim in this case – she has displayed huge strength and bravery in reporting Goodwin’s offending.

“His disturbing behaviour has, understandably, impacted her life, causing her a significant amount of distress. I do hope that the knowledge he has been brought to justice may aid her to begin to move forward with her life.

“Goodwin chose to stalk and intimidate his victim. He sent her more than a thousand text messages; he turned up at her house, the place where she should feel safest, banging on the door and he threatened her. I want to make it very clear that this criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in our county.

“If you or someone you know has been a victim of stalking, I would urge you to report it to us. We will listen to what you have to say, appropriately investigate and do all we can to get you justice.”
