A fundraising walk up Pendle Hill will take place next year in memory of Madia Kauser, a 32-year-old mother of two who died in Blackburn’s Witton Park after being struck by a falling tree branch in August.

Madia’s husband Wasim Khan has set up the Madia Kauser Foundation, aiming to help children in poverty across England.

The foundation's first event, a walk up Pendle Hill, will happen on 7th February. The meeting point is at the Olive section of Pleasington Cemetery in Blackburn at 10am, with the walk starting at 11am.

A GoFundMe page titled 'Madia Kauser Charity Walk’ has been launched with the target of raising at least £1,000. Donations can be made via GoFundMe.

Wasim Khan described his late wife as exceptionally kind-hearted.

"We are trying to raise funds in her memory to help children in England who suffer from poverty," Mr Khan said.

"I want people to understand she was so unselfish. She would honestly give her last ten pounds in her pocket if she saw a child struggling. That’s what kind of heart she had. So why can’t we all do the same? Real help starts in our own local community."

The Health and Safety Executive is still investigating the circumstances of Mrs Kauser’s death. An inquest, which was opened in August, is expected in the coming months.

In November, Blackburn with Darwen Council was served an ‘improvement notice’ regarding tree inspection and management policies.

Mrs Kauser’s death occurred after she reportedly pushed her daughter out of harm’s way before being struck by the branch.
