Business owners in Lancashire fear 'light at the end of the tunnel keeps getting further away'
It's after the government announced further measures to tackle rising cases of the covid variant
There's fear and confusion in Lancashire after the government's announced further measures for the county and Greater Manchester in a bid to tackle rising covid cases.
Seven out of ten places for the highest covid rates in England are in Lancashire:
Blackburn with Darwen
Bolton
Rossendale
Burnley
Hyndburn
South Ribble
Ribble Valley
Salford
Manchester
Preston
Yesterday Matt Hancock advised residents to keep travel in and out of the county to a minimum and to avoid meeting people indoors.
Andy Mac, who runs the Ships and Giggles pub in Preston, said: "It's not just the mental side, the staff, the management, the owners, we're all worried, we're all anxious, we're having to work extra hard putting everything in place...but it's the finance side that is the scariest part because the longer this goes on, let's not be disillusioned here, it's the more dept we're in.
"It's just annoying, as soon as you try and convince yourself to relax and what you're doing's good and there's light at the end of the tunnel...you then think how long is this tunnel because it seems to be getting further away the closer I get?
"At the end of the day if people want to go out, they're going to go out, if they don't...they don't. If you feel at all anxious about going out socialising, don't, but lets not try and put too many people off that are happy to go out."
