The MP for Burnley has praised the football club's success in the league this season as they aim to claim the title later today.

The Clarets have already secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but need to better Leeds United's result today in order to lift the trophy.

Oliver Ryan, MP for Burnley, said: ""When the club does well, the town does well.

"There are some big brands that people associate with the town and the football club is the biggest. We're really chuffed."

Mr Ryan, who's 30-years-old, was elected as the region's MP in last year's general election.

He's hoping that Burnley's footballing success will bring opportunities and prosperity to the town.

He said: "There's businesses across the world now that will have heard about Burnley.

"My message to them is 'if you want a place to do business and a work force who are ready to graft; Burnley's the place to do it'."

There's a planned open-top bus parade on Tuesday in the city centre where, if all goes well, head coach Scott Parker will hope to show off some silverware.

Burnley host Millwall at Turf Moor in a 12:30pm kick off today.
