Bolton Wanderers have said they "unequivocally" condemn a recent post directed at their X account on Friday evening.

A post which mentioned Trotters manager Ian Evatt has been reported to the police and the club has said it will fully cooperate with any ensuing investigation.

In a statement, the club said it has a "zero tolerance policy" for such behaviour.

"The content of this post is utterly reprehensible," the statement said.

“Bolton Wanderers Football Club is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all employees and our supporters, and will take all necessary measures to protect them from harm.”

An independent fan podcast, Trotter Chatter, has posted on X that it is "aware of a violent tweet directed at Ian Evatt that has been circulating online.

"We want to make it absolutely clear that Trotter Chatter has no affiliation with this post, and we strongly condemn the intent directed at the manager.

"The author of the tweet is no longer affiliated with the podcast."

Separately, there were reports of racist language around 80 minutes into Bolton's 2-1 win against Exeter, used towards former Wanderers player Josh Magennis.

The stadium announcer instructed supporters that the game would be stopped if any further incidents occurred.

No details have yet been made available and neither club has yet made a statement.
