Body found on beach in Fleetwood in search for man who went into the sea

The body of a man has been found on the beach in Fleetwood following reports that someone had gone into the sea.

Police were called to an area near Rossall School in Broadway on Saturday afternoon. A body was found on the beach around five hours later.

The body is believed to be that of a 29-year-old man from Bolton, but formal identification is yet to take place.

Police have also confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: "We were called at 3.27pm on July 17 following reports a man had gone into the sea, close to Rossall School, Broadway, Fleetwood, and had not been seen since.

"Emergency services, including the police, HM Coastguard and NPAS, carried out a comprehensive search for him. Sadly, just before 8.15pm a body was discovered on the beach close to where the man was last seen.

"Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe it to be that of a 29-year-old man from Bolton.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this extremely distressing time."
