'We'll love you no matter what!' -Blackpool in play-off action at Wembley today
The Seasiders take on Lincoln City for the chance to play in the Championship next season
Blackpool fans will be on the edge of their seats this afternoon as the boys take on Lincoln City in the League One play off final at Wembley.
If the Seasiders win this game, they'll be promoted to The Championship - a league they haven't played in since the 2009/2010 season.
It'll be a huge success for Neil Critchley's side, who ended the 2019/2020 campaign in 13th place after Leagues One and Two voted to end the season early due to the pandemic.
But it's all looking positive as their 80-point run is the highest the club has seen since 2007.
That was also the summer that Blackpool were promoted into The Championship for the first time in 29 years!
Blackpool go into this afternoon's match in good form, having not lost in six matches, winning five of them and conceding just three goals in the process.
They've made it to today's final after beating Oxford United in the semi-final, 6-3 over two legs.
Well, after another season unable to support the team in person, fans are excited to be able to see them in action at Wembley today.
A limited amount of tickets were made available for fans which have now completely sold out.
Blackpool manager Neil Critchley said:
“To lead this football club out at Wembley is a special occasion and one I am looking forward to.
"The players are so important, so I will direct all my energy and positivity onto them for the match.
"For the few supporters that are able to travel down and support us, we’ll do everything we can to ensure they enjoy their day out, as well as the thousands that I’m sure will be backing us from back home.”
Christine Seddon is the head of Blackpool FC Supporter's Trust. She said:
"There's no reason why we shouldn't beat Lincoln. They haven't been an easy side for us. I do think it'll be a tight game so I'm certainly not counting any chickens!
"They're in a really good place now and that's kind of what it's all about. So let's hope that things go the way they should. We'll certainly be there roaring them on!
"I think we're very strong, we're mentally very strong and there is no reason why we shouldn't go on and win it."
And her message to the team?
"Go out there, enjoy the game. It's a wonderful occasion for you as footballers to be able to play at Wembley - the home of football.
"Make the most of it. Try not to be nervous
"Make yourselves proud, make us proud, make the town proud and we'll love you no matter what!
