Blackpool named England's 'unhealthiest area'
The seaside resort has scored lowest on ONS' official health index
Blackpool is the UK's unhealthiest area, according to a new study.
The Office for National Statistics scored every local authority in England on several factors - including physical health, mental health and fitness.
Blackpool scored 87.82 for healthy people, 88.24 for healthy lives and 98.24 health places - bringing the average to 91.43.
The health index found that the low healthy people score comes with a low life expectancy score of 75.52 and a low avoidable mortality score of 72.38. Poor scores were also recorded for alcohol misuse and healthy eating.
The national average is 100. Manchester is in second with a score of 92.53. Hull is third with 93.09.
The study was carried out by fitness and health company Barbend.
