Blackburn and Darwen Council have warned of the dangers of poor driving after two binmen were nearly hit by an impatient driver.

The council shared a video on their social media platforms that showed the men at work collecting refuse on an unnamed street.

Footage of the men at work was then followed by a silver car that was coming towards the truck.

Seemingly in a rush to get to their destination, the driver of the car went on to mount the pavement and drive around the rubbish truck, nearly hitting the binmen who were bringing one homeowner's bins back.

Describing the incident as a "hairy moment", Blackburn and Darwen Council said that it was "lucky" that the driver of the truck had alerted the men to stand back.

Officials said that the driver of the car went on to receive a warning letter regarding Section 43 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The council said that should the driver do anything similar in future, they will be community protection notice and could be fined or prosecuted as a result.

They added: "In this case, our refuse collection vehicle had no option but to take up the road because of parked vehicles.

"Please think before you park. And remember – patience is a virtue!"
