Police are appealing for information after workers at a shop in Preston were threatened with a crowbar and a hammer in an armed robbery earlier this week.

Two mean wearing balaclavas went into the Co-Op on Granton Walk on Monday evening (21st March) at around 10.20pm and demanded staff opened the till.

Cash and cigarettes were stolen but no one was hurt although staff are said to have been left extremely shaken.

Detectives are appealing for information and urging any witnesses or anybody who was in the area and may have dashcam or CCTV footage from Tag Lane, Redcar Avenue and Whitby Avenue between 9pm and 10:30pm on the night of the incident to get in touch.

DS Denise Fardella, of Preston CID, said: “This incident was frightening for the staff involved but thankfully they were unhurt.

“We believe this robbery was well planned and prepared. The males have waited for the staff to close the store and taken this opportunity to gain entry. We also believe those involved may have been in and around the area in recent days in order to establish routines around the stores opening hours.

“Did you see anyone or any vehicles in the area acting suspiciously on the evening of the robbery or in the days prior? If you think you can help us please come forward. Any information you have may be important and we encourage you to make contact. We are keen to gather as much information as possible to help us identify those responsible.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting log 1635 of March 21 or email 6200@lancashire.police.uk

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
