Andrew Pilley, who is former CEO and Chairman of Fleetwood Town, and currently still owns the club has been jailed for 13 years after he was convicted on four counts of fraud.

Pilley was found guilty of fraudulent trading, fraud by false representation, and being involved in the proceeds of fraudulently mis-sold energy contracts.

The fraud involved a network of interconnected companies that misled small businesses across the UK into signing long-term energy contracts from 2014 to 2016.

Children's charities, guest houses and companies supporting disabled people were among the victims.

They were mis-sold contracts which included false or misleading statements about contract length, price, and competitor rates.

Pilley has been the chairman and owner of Fleetwood for 20 years and has overseen their rise from non-league status to the English Football League. The club has issued the following statement: "Fleetwood Town Football Club acknowledges the sentencing in the court case involving former club chairman, Andy Pilley.

"The club would like to reiterate convictions are against individuals and not Fleetwood Town FC, or any of the businesses associated with them, and will continue to operate as normal.

"Fleetwood Town remain in communication with the EFL in relation to the implications of the convictions and will now be making an application to the League in relation to a change of control the club will make no further comment at this time."
