No Further Action Over School Threat
Man arrested after social media threats aimed at staff and students is released without charge
A man who was arrested after online threats were made to carry out a massacre at a Blackpool school has been released without charge.
Lancashire Police said that their investigation into the social media threats, which spoke of plans to kill as many people as possible'' at Montgomery High School in Bispham, was now at an end.
A 55-year-old man from Blackpool, who had been arrested on suspicion of public nuisance and malicious communication offences, will not face any action. In December, officers were made aware of a number of Facebook and Reddit social media posts created by an anonymous user, threatening to harm pupils when doors opened for the start of the new term. The school had opened as usual on January 4, with officers providing a visible presence on site to reassure - but many parents chose to keep their children away. However, the day passed without incident and no one was harmed.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: Detectives launched an extensive investigation following the posts and a 55-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance and malicious communication offences.
He was released without charge on Friday and the investigation is now at an end.''
