Accrington woman who threw potatoes at Paramedics is jailed

A woman has been jailed for more than 10 months after assaulting paramedics in Accrington.
Rebecca Stevenson, 26 of Nelson Street, Accrington appeared at Preston Crown Court last Friday (September 13) where she was sentenced to 44 weeks imprisonment following a trial.
At around 8:30pm, on 7th May 2024, we received a report of an assault on an emergency worker on Broadway in Accrington. Paramedics attending to Stevenson had had potatoes and other objects thrown at them and had a can of aerosol gas sprayed at them.
Stevenson had behaved aggressively towards the paramedics, assaulting them both inside and outside the ambulance. Thankfully the two emergency workers only suffered minor injuries.
Det. Ch. Insp Andy Horne of East Division said: “Assaults on anyone, including emergency workers will not be tolerated.
“Those paramedics attended to Stevenson to help her, not to have objects thrown at them. These assaults are not, and never will be tolerated in Lancashire and I welcome the custodial sentence handed down on Stevenson.
