Firefighters have spent this morning (Wednesday 11th May 2016) battling a blaze near Preston.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue service has issue a statement saying:

"In the early hours of Wednesday morning firefighters from Bamber Bridge were called to reports of a fire at an industrial unit after receiveing reports that there was smoke in the maintenance dept.

"Initially two crews from Bamber Bridge attended and soon increased the response to 10 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms.

"The ground floor of a two storey building approximately 100m by 50m was heavily smoke logged.

"Firefighters quickly sectoised the scene into four and began tackling the fire using jets and ground monitors alongside two aerial ladder platforms.

"There was a stop message for this incident at 07:54hrs and the number of fire engines reduced to 6 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms, however firefighters will remail on the scene throughout the day damping down and ensuring the scene is safe.

"The building has been severely damaged by the fire and the cause of is currently not yet known.

"A fire investigation is now underway."
