Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' Tops Christmas Earners List
It has made £522,000 and counting this year!
Slade’s anthem ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ is on course to be 2013’s biggest earning festive track.
At the time of writing, it’s estimated that the 1973 Christmas no.1 has earned songwriters Noddy Holder and Jim Lea a phenomenal £522,000 in royalties this festive season – and that tally could rise to £800k before the year’s out!
In second spot is The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York’ (£393k so far), Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is third (£354k) and Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ is currently fourth (£307k)
The figures come from Prezzybox who have published a Christmas Royalties Calculator showing the second-by-second earnings of the biggest Christmas tracks.
The figures are based on estimated PRS (Performing Rights Society) earnings from television, radio and shop plays together with compilation appearances, single sales and more.
With two weeks exactly to go until Christmas all the artists should enjoy a huge royalties spike and an even bigger pay cheque in January.
The current Top 10 earners, according to Prezzybox, are:
- Slade ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ (£522,000) 2. The Pogues ‘Fairytale of New York (£393,000) 3. Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ (£354,000) 4. Wham! ‘Last Christmas’ (£307,000) 5. Cliff Richard ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ (£100,000) 6. Band Aid ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ (£79,000) 7. Shakin’ Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ (£55,000) 8. The Pretenders ‘2000 Miles’ (£46,000) 9.
