Bonnie Tyler to Represent The UK At Eurovision
The power ballad singer is heading to Sweden
Bonnie Tyler has been unveiled as the UK’s entry at the Eurovision Song Contest this year!
Famous for power-pop anthems like ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘Holding Out for a Hero’, the 61-year-old Welsh singer will sing the new composition ‘Believe In Me’ in Malmo, Sweden on Saturday 18th May.
Bonnie enthused: “I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to represent my country at Eurovision, and especially with such a fabulous song. I promise to give this everything that I've got for the UK!”
Katie Taylor, BBC Controller, Entertainment and Events added: "Bonnie Tyler is truly a global superstar with a fantastic voice and we are delighted she will be flying the flag for the UK in Malmö."
The nation will be hoping Bonnie eclipses 2012’s entrant Engelbert Humperdinck who came 25th place out of 26 countries in Azerbaijan with just 12 points.
Written by Desmond Child (Robbie Williams, Katy Perry, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi), Lauren Christy and Christopher Braide, ‘Believe In Me’ is lifted from Bonnie’s upcoming sixteenth studio album ‘Rocks & Honey’ which is released on 6th May.
Once a dominant Eurovision force, the last time the UK won the contest was in 1997 when Katrina & The Waves performed ‘Love Shine A Light’ in Ireland.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that a song penned by Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi – ‘Lonely Planet’ - has been selected by Armenia as their Eurovision entry. Gor Sujyan and his band will belt out the track at the semi-finals on 16th May.
