It’s been 14 years since Suranne Jones left the role that made her a household name as Coronation Street’s Karen McDonald. Although she’s since gone on to wow us all in gripping dramas like Unforgiven and Doctor Foster, it looks like she could be making a return to the soap to sort out on-screen ex Steve.

Karen and Steve’s fiery relationship played out over four years and had viewers hooked when Tracy Barlow crashed their wedding to reveal that Steve was the father of her daughter Amy.

After leaving the show, when Karen was dramatically dumped on Boxing Day, Suranne said she was "gobsmacked” to find out that Steve had been up to his old tricks and had a baby with Leanne Battersby, while on a break from Michelle Connor.

She said while she doesn't have time to keep up with the soap, she is still friends with Corrie stars Jennie McAlpine and Antony Cotton, so she catches up through them, but she didn’t know Steve had a baby.

Suranne starred in Coronation Street for four years

Surrane is keen for a soap comeback to confront no-good Steve and it looks like it could coincide with a fundraiser for Comic Relief. She revealed she would consider returning if it raised a lot of money for charity.

After winning Best Drama Performance at last month’s National Television Awards for her role as Gemma Foster in Doctor Foster, we’re sure soap fans would love to see Suranne make a big return to the cobbles. Corrie producers, please make it happen!

Coronation Street continues on ITV with double episodes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
