Fans of EastEnders will be over the moon to hear that the infamous Kat Moon is returning to the square next year.

The last time viewers saw Kat (Jessie Wallace) was with her husband Alfie in Ireland after they went to find her long lost son Dermott. Things took a turn for the worse when it soon came to light that he was an evil vicar who murdered people.

The last time the infamous characters were on-screen their fate was unclear after Alfie had an operation on his brain tumour and Kat fell off a boat following an altercation with her son.

Now it's been reported that Kat will be returning to Walford Square after EastEnders boss John Yorke, who originally brought in the Slater family back in 2000, has asked for Jessie Wallace to return.

According to a national newspaper, the 46-year-old actress has already signed up for her return, with an insider revealing, "John loves the Slaters. A lot of people thought he might bring some of them back.

"He believes they’re long-standing favourites who should be at the heart of the show and thinks Kat’s return will be a hit."

They added, "Nobody knew if she or Alfie would return so it looked like they had been killed.

"This will surprise fans."

Eek!

Following Kat's return what does this mean for Alfie? And will she be bringing some of her family members back too? Little Mo? Lynne? Zoe?

Kat isn't the only character returning to the Square either so we're sure there's going to be a lot of drama in Walford next year.
